ELIGIBILITY:
1. Open to students of MTAC Members-San Diego Branch.
2. Students must have studied at least 6 months with entering
teacher.
CLASSIFICATION AND DIVISIONS:
Division I Piano through age 11
Division II Piano 12-14 years old
Division III Piano 15-18 years old
Division IV Wind Instruments through age 18
Division V String Instruments through age 13
Division VI String Instruments 14-18 years old
AWARDS:
Judges may select a First, Second and Third Place winner from
each division. The First-Place winners will perform with an orchestra
in the San Diego area during the spring or early summer. Second-Place
winners are considered alternates.
Winners and Honorable Mentions will
be announced immediately following the completion of each division.
Awards will be presented to all winners at that time. Each contestant
will receive
a Certificate of Participation after his/her performance.
AUDITION PROCEDURES:
•Each contestant is given 10 minutes maximum.
•Orchestral parts must be played on a second piano.
•Teachers cannot accompany their own students.
•Photocopied music at the performance will result in disqualification.
•NOTE: No previous winner can compete in the same division.
No winner can compete with the same concerto in a different division.
REPERTOIRE:
•One complete movement of a work for soloist and orchestra.
Please keep in mind that Twentieth-century concertos by composers
such as Barber, Bartok, Prokofieff and Scriabin may be too difficult
for the accompanying orchestra.
•All performances must be from memory.
APPLICATION
PROCEDURES:
1. Use online registration.
2. Send one check drawn on the teacher's account for the total
amount, payable to
MTAC-San Diego Branch.
*Application fee: $45 per student.
3. Deadline for all application materials: January 13, 2012 (postmarked)
