Vera Lukomsky

Vera Lukomsky is a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, where her musical training began at age five with piano and solfeggio lessons. Her continuing musical studies led her to a Master's degree in Music from the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. Following her graduation, Ms. Lukomsky taught piano, music theory and music history at the St. Petersburg Krupskaia Institute of Culture and at the Rakhmaninov School of Music, gaining recognition as a music educator.

Her textbook, Analysis of Harmony in the Course of Solfeggio and Ear-Training won first place in the All-Russia Methodology Competition for Instructors of Music and Arts, and is currently used by Russian institutions of musical education.

After moving to the United States in 1990, Ms. Lukomsky completed a Ph.D. program at the University of California, San Diego. She is a recipient of the Hendrikson Fellowship. Her articles on music appeared in major professional journals, such as Tempo (London), Perspectives of New Music and International Journal of Musicology. In the course of her doctoral studies, Ms. Lukomsky taught various courses at UCSD's Department of Music.

Currently, she is teaching piano and music theory at her Allegro Music Studio in Encinitas, California, where she employs the finest principles of Russian and American musical education. Her students are actively engaged in music performances, participating in concerts, festivals and contests.

Ms. Lukomsky accepts students of all levels, from beginner to advanced. She recommends for parents to start their children's musical education at the age of five. Also, Ms. Lukomsky welcomes adult students as well as college-level students who require help with subjects of their music theory curriculum, such as harmony, counterpoint, or ear-training.

Recognized as a fine pianist, Ms. Lukomsky is a sought-after artist at private functions and, as her time permits, will consider performing opportunities.

Ms. Lukomsky is a member of The Music Teachers' Association of California, and The Music Teachers National Association. Her biography recently appeared in Who's Who of American Women, and in The International Directory of Distinguished Leadership.
