Vera
Lukomsky is a native of St. Petersburg, Russia and a graduate
of St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, where she earned a Master's
degree in Music in Piano and Music Theory. Following her graduation, Ms.
Lukomsky taught piano, music theory and music history at the Rachmaninov
School of Music, and at the St. Petersburg Krupskaia Institute of Culture,
gaining recognition as a music educator.
Her textbook, Analysis of Harmony in the Course of Solfeggio
and Ear-Training won first place in the All-Russia Methodology
Competition for Instructors of Music and Arts, and is currently used by
Russian institutions of musical education.
After moving to the United States in 1990, Vera Lukomsky completed a Ph.D.
program at the University of California, San Diego. She is a recipient
of the Hendrikson Fellowship. Her articles on music appeared in major
professional journals and encyclopedias in England, Germany, Spain, and
the US. In the course of her doctoral studies, Ms. Lukomsky taught various
courses at UCSD's Department of Music.
Currently, she is teaching piano and music theory at her Allegro
Piano Studio in Encinitas, California, and various music courses
at National University. Having studied in Russia and the US, Vera combines
the best principles and methods of American and Russian systems of musical
education. Her students are actively engaged in music performances, participate
in concerts and festivals offered by The Music Teachers’
Associations of California, and California Association
of Professional Music Teachers. Many of Vera’s students
became winners of various competitions. Her students also participate
in the Certificate of Merit, annual examination in piano
performance, music theory, ear training and sight reading. The Allegro
Piano Studio concerts are held twice a year. The June concert features
a certain theme, such as “Music and Dances”, “Music
and Nature”, “Images of Spain and Latin America”, or
“Contemporary Composers for Children”. Programs of these concerts
won many awards from The Music Teachers’ Association of California.
Vera Lukomsky’s biography has appeared in Who's Who of American
Women, and in The International Directory of Distinguished Leadership.
Vera teaches students of all levels, from beginner to advanced.
She accepts students as young as five years old.
