Spring Festival, called so because
it is always held in May, is a theme recital, with a new theme
chosen every year. Examples of themes that have been used in the
past are: music composed by women, music using dance forms, and
music of the Romantic era.
Recitals are formed based on the repertoire
entered by the performers. This is a non-competitive event, with
certificates of participation given to each student and judges'
comments provided for the student's teacher.
We have been fortunate to have the
French Parlor in USD's Founders' Hall made available to us
for this festival. There, amidst ceiling-to-floor velvet drapes,
interesting antiques, and a spring
breeze wafting through the square-paned windows, our students
have the luxury of hearing and
playing some of the most beautiful music of the piano literature.
