Attention San Diego Branch MTAC Teachers and Students

It's time to register for the annual VOCE Competition,
a tremendous opportunity for young musicians!

What is VOCE?
"VOCE" stands for Voice, Orchestral Instruments, Chamber Music and Ensembles. VOCE presents a unique opportunity for all young musicians to compete as a soloist or within an ensemble. Visit the branch website for more details: http://www.sandiegomtac.com/voce-competition.php.

When is the VOCE Competition?
The competition is on Sunday, February 12, 2012. The registration deadline is 11:59pm on January 23.

Where will the competition be held?
For directions to the school, please visit the school's website. Free parking, however, all parties attending the event must provide the enrolled student's name to the school security guard when entering the parking lot.

This is a closed audition. Parents, teachers, students, etc. will not be allowed inside Crivello Hall. A panel of three judges will select the winners and evaluate all performers with written comments. Prizes to be awarded upon completion of each category. The awards ceremony will be held outdoors, weather permitting. Certificates will be given to all participants and trophies to first-, second- and third-place winners. All first-place winners will advance to the State Finals. State Winners will be eligible for cash prizes ($400-$2400) and will perform at the MTAC Convention in San Diego.

Who is eligible to participate?
Competitive Division: Solo instrumentalists and vocalists who are currently studying with an MTAC member, or chamber ensembles coached by an MTAC member are eligible to participate. See category, age, and repertoire below(page 2).

Non-Competitive Division: Students who do not wish to compete in VOCE may instead elect to perform for written comments only from the judges. Students must study with an MTAC member. Memorization for non-competitors is optional; and if desired students may perform only one selection. The registration fee is the same as competitive division. Parents, teachers, students etc. are not allowed inside Crivello Hall during the event.

How do I register?
Teachers only: Go to state website and select “MTAC Login.” On the teacher homepage, select “VOCE” then “Applications”. After registering, please remember to send a copy of proof of age (birth certificate or passport) to: Angela Rowland, VOCE Chair, 1565 Hotel Circle S #310, San Diego 92108. Also, send one large stamped envelope (at least $1.44) and a self-addressed* manila envelope (9x10 or 10x13) for comment forms, certificate and music (if necessary) to be returned to the teacher's address*. Proof of age is not required for the non-competitive division.

Rules and Regulations
Each contestant or ensemble will be allowed up to 9 minutes for the performance. All music with piano accompaniment must be performed with a pianist (the teacher is allowed to accompany). Memorization is required for all pieces except ensemble division. Students choosing a sonata (where the piano has a prominent part of the duo, and played by another student) may perform in the ensemble division with scores. Solo division sonatas are to be played from memory. Each performer or ensemble must provide an original score at check-in. Photocopied music at the performance (for students or judges)—OR failure to provide an original score will result in immediate disqualification for competitive and non-competitive divisions.

For complete eligibility and rules, go to state website and select “MTAC Login.” On the teacher homepage, select “VOCE” then “Documents.”

Please direct all registration-related questions to Angela Rowland, (858) 699-9873 or angelarowland02@yahoo.com (email preferred). You may send the proof of age as an email attachment for your convenience.
